Proper Restraints and Holds Techniques
This course will cover basic premises of the Koga Institute related to the police role in arrest, emotional control, the concept of control, and the use of pain compliance and leverage. Specific, humane, and effective basic control holds will be demonstrated and explained in detail. The control holds demonstrated are a small part of the Koga system which is a more comprehensive system of arrest control, baton, crowd control, and police tactics.

Don Black & Don James
Expertise:
Don Black is a Senior Instructor at the Koga Institute.
Don James is an instructor at the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at the Community College of Aurora.
Don Black has served 32 years of his 37 year law enforcement career with the Aurora, Colorado Police Department. He's worked as a street supervisor in many varied assignments, some of which were SWAT, tactical motorcycle, Gang Unit, and the Emergency Response Unit. He has been active in martial arts since 1969 and was a past Subject Matter Expert in Arrest Control for Colorado POST. He is presently a senior instructor for the Koga Institute.
Don James retired from the Aurora, Colorado Police Department after 33 years of service. He was active in SWAT for 31 years and received the Department’s highest honor for his actions in a hostage rescue. He has studied and taught for the Koga Institute since 1979 and presently teaches in the Basic Law Enforcement Academy at the Community College of Aurora.
