Sergeant Bjes has been with the Addison Police Department since 2000. He has a Bachelor's degree in sociology and psychology from Valparaiso University and has a Master of Science degree in criminal and social justice from Lewis University.
While Sergeant Bjes was assigned to the Field Services Division, he worked as a Juvenile Officer, Field Training Officer, Evidence Technician, and a Breath Alcohol Operator.
In 2005, Sergeant Bjes was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Section as a Gang Investigator. During that time, he conducted hundreds of investigations related to street gang activity. Sergeant Bjes has testified over 30 times as a gang expert in the 18th Judicial Circuit Court, DuPage County, Illinois; the 22nd District, Hays County, Texas; and at federal immigration hearings. Sergeant Bjes has been called upon to teach law enforcement to school personnel and citizens in the field of street gangs.
In 2014, Sergeant Bjes was assigned to Addison School District 4 as a School Resource Officer until being promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Sergeant Bjes is currently an ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) Instructor, Rapid Deployment Instructor, Rescue Task Force Instructor, and Defensive Tactics Instructor.
Sergeant Bjes was a Class Supervisor for Class BA15-03 at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy and is also an at-large board member for the DuPage County Juvenile Officers Association.
Sergeant Bjes has received numerous awards and commendations during his time with the Addison Police Department and while working in the Criminal Investigations Section.
