Expertise:
Jim Marshall, M.A., L.L.P. is CEO of the 911 Training Institute. 911TI’s courses and “psych tools” empower 911 Professionals for personal resilience, peer support, and mastery of mental crisis calls. Jim, a licensed mental health professional for over 35 years, was founding chair and CEO of the non-profit 911 Wellness Foundation, and co-chaired the working groups that created the national Standard on Acute/Traumatic and Chronic Stress Management and the 2022 Standard to Protect the Well-being of 9-1-1 Professionals. Jim is co-editor of The Resilient 9-1-1 Professional: A Comprehensive Guide to Surviving & Thriving Together in the 9-1-1- Center. He blames his sick sense of humor on chronic exposure to his 9-1-1 colleagues, to whom he is forever grateful. To learn more about 911TI, visit www.911training.net
I am a "Recovering" 9-1-1 PSAP Director. After 25 years and counting in Public Safety, I have recently launched my own company and podcast “On Scene First,” which focuses on educating public safety professionals on must-have technology tools and mental health resources to help save lives on both sides of the call.
From dispatcher to Chief Dispatcher, I spent many years serving my community in rural Massachusetts, I still love the ability to still serve my home town as a call firefighter/EMT and lead instructor of our Fire/EMS Explorer post.
I spent 4 years at RapidSOS where I got to play a pivotal role in the delivery of device-based locations to 911 and first responders.
With a passion for public speaking, I have been recognized nationally for my efforts to train telecommunicators and bringing awareness to PTSD and public safety through conference training sessions, webinars, and keynote presentations. In 2020, I was also the proud recipient of the NG911 Institute “Industry Professional of the Year.”
