This course covers some exceptions to the 4th Amendment, including the plain view seizure doctrine, the plain feel seizure doctrine, protective sweeps, the Summers doctrine, and the automobile exception. Norman Comeaux covers the seminal Supreme Court cases that established these exceptions, when officers can utilize these exceptions, and the exceptions’ limits.

Norman Comeaux

Norman Comeaux received his law degree at Louisiana State University. After that, he was a prosecutor in the New Orleans District Attorney's Office where he tried close to 100 jury trials from misdemeanor drug cases to capital murder cases, and tried many more judge trials. After that, he was a special agent with the FBI for over 21 years. He worked violent crime and white collar. In the last 14 years, he was the Chief Division Counsel for the state of Mississippi. Today, he teaches many subjects to local, state and federal law enforcement including the Constitution and the Fourth Amendment.
